Hi. Well let me start by saying that I am Alyssa, an 18-year-old college freshman at SRU. I signed up for this because I wanted to respond to my aunt and uncle's blog that they have set up on this site in order to post recent news and keep family and friends updated on my uncle's condition. He has just been diagnosed with Amyloidosis, a rare but fatal disease that generates mutant proteins in the blood which cause all of the organs to dysfunction and eventually fail. There is no known cure for this disease, but there are several treatments to help keep the disease in remission. My uncle is currently undergoing a stem cell transplant, in which this procedure will take a month to complete. So, while he is in New York City in the hospital, us Pennsylvanians can be informed about every little detail that goes on during his treatment.
